Male Dogs AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION

Danny

  • Male
  • Mixed
  • Size: Medium/large
  • 2015/2016 +/-
  • Weight: 15 -20kg
  • Colour: Honey

Danny was found sitting outside the refuge, along with another dog (Amy), we don’t know if they are mother and son or brother and sister, but what we do know is they are both just adorable. Danny adores human company and as soon as someone walks past, this fellow puts his paw through the fence to stop you so he gets some cuddles. He is still quite young and is thought to be around one-year-old. He enjoys his walks and running after balls, but also just enjoys having you around. We can imagine him in a home alone or with other dogs and with older children, too. Danny is a sociable and active dog with a springy lust for life that would put a smile on anyone’s face. He is hoping that he doesn’t have to wait too long to find a family of his own; where he can enjoy playing in the garden and snuggling up to his owner for a nap.

By welcoming Danny into your life you are opening yourself up to finding a new best friend who will bring lots of love to your home.

Tyson

Sex: Male

Breed: Podenco cross

Size: Medium

Born: 2012/2013 +/-

Weight: 10-15kg

Colour: Sandy brown

Tyson was found abandoned at the refuge by Alan and Jane together with his nine siblings as very little pups. Jane hand-reared them all, but unfortunately all siblings contracted Parvo virus. Sadly two siblings died, but Jane fought to pull the remaining pups through. Three of these have already found homes but some have still been over-looked and Tyson is one of this little group.

What´s he like with people? Well, that´s easy and can be described in one big word…ADORABLE!! This little fella is so friendly and loving with people. He is desperate for human contact as it makes him feel secure. Refuge life for Tyson is a struggle which is totally understandable. He finds it hard to relax when he is alone, as do his siblings.
Tyson is a play machine, always on for a game and is so cheeky. Such an intelligent boy and very athletic. With the right family, Tyson would make an incredible companion. Over time he has become much calmer but needs to leave the refuge and be in a home environment which will help him to continue his progress.
Sometimes, he is a bit temperamental towards other dogs and he has to be supervised if fed  with other dogs. But, his sibling, Junior, who had similar behaviour issues was adopted by an experienced dog owner and after one week he improved greatly, so we feel that this is more than achievable with Tyson. We know that he has the potential, he just needs someone with a big heart, patience and understanding to see this and take Tyson under their wing. Tyson already walks very well on the lead, he loves to please people and this is the reason why we believe that training him will not be a hard task. He is a truly lovely boy and has spent way too long in the refuge already!
Please enquire about Tyson if you can offer him a special, loving home.

Henry

  • Male
  • Podenco cross
  • Size: medium
  • 2012/2013 +/-
  • Weight: 10-15kg
  • Colour: sand brown
History:
Henry was found abandoned at the refuge by Alan and Jane together with his nine siblings as very little pups.  Jane hand-reared them all, but unfortunately all siblings contracted Parvo virus.  Sadly two siblings died, but Jane fought to pull the remaining pups through.  Three of these have already found homes but some have still been over-looked and Henry is one of this little group.
Character:
What´s he like with people??  Well, that´s easy and can be described in one big word…KISSABLE!!  This little fella is so friendly and loving with people. He is desperate for human contact as it makes him feel secure.  Refuge life for Henry is a struggle which is totally understandable.  He finds it hard to relax when he is alone, as do his siblings.  Henry is active, athletic and fun and would make a great companion to any family that loves the outdoors.  Such an intelligent boy, like a sponge, very athletic and may even suit agility .  Over time he has become much calmer but needs to leave the refuge and be in a home environment which will help him to continue his progress.  He can display some rather narky behaviour both with other dogs and with his food so he would need guidance and supervision and further work will be needed to socialise him more.   A sibling of his, Junior, with similar behaviour issues recently went into foster care and after one week he has improved greatly so we feel that this is achievable with Henry.  We know that he has the potential, he just needs someone with a big heart, patience and understanding to see this and take this little fella under their wing and let him tuck up on your lap, secure and happy for the rest of his life.  Please enquire about Henry as he is finding life so stressful at the refuge and it´s sad for us to see this.

Stitch

  • Male
  • Bodeguero mix (Spanish Jack Russel)
  • Size: Small
  • 2010/2011 +/-
  • Weight: 5-10kg
  • Colour: black, with white legs and brown nose
History:
Was abandoned at refuge gates and was pacing around trying to come in as if he knew it was the only option he had left to survive.
Character:
Stitch is a larger than life character with typical Jack Russel characteristics. He´s active, fun, loves to run and play and to receive attention. He is also good with other dogs here at the refuge. He would suit an active family who likes walking, bike riding etc. He´s rather cocky and comes across as being in your face but not in an aggressive , dominant, way….just in your face!! He is so intelligent so needs plenty of exercise, focus and challenges which will help him to calm down very quickly and be a lap dog too. We know that he has huge potential, but we think he needs an experienced home who know how to give him sufficient guidelines and positive praise and a ´kitty free´one! Refuge life doesn´t help dogs like Stitch who are true working dogs. We would like to say, however in his favour, that this lad will have you in ´STITCHES´ with laughter, a true comedian, a true star, an endearing fella who is wasting his life in a refuge. Stitch is his name, don´t forget and enquire about him today!

Ben

  • Male
  • Basenji/Podenco mix
  • Size:medium
  • 2011/2012 +/-
  • Weight: 10-15kg
  • Colour: honey with white markings
History:
Heartlessly dumped in a box outside our gate.
Character:
As a Basenji mix, Ben doesn´t bark but makes sounds that include yodels, whines, and screams which is actually quite comical. This mix of podenco and Basenji has produced a very clever and endearing dog, a good companion for the person or family who can stay one step ahead of him. He is classified as a hound which means he’s intelligent and independent, but also very affectionate and alert but a ´kitty free´home is essential. We would love him to go to an experienced home who can offer training with kindness and consistency, using positive reinforcements and praise. The Basenji who’s treated harshly will simply become more stubborn so you will need to keep his interest otherwise he willl develop selective hearing! Ben just loves to go out for walks and would thrive on the new challenges and opportunities that a family could give him. Refuge life is hard for him and his brother Bill as there isn´t enough time to give them they attention they need. But…they take it in their stride and wait patiently for their opportunity to come. It seems sometimes that they have both resigned themselves to the fact that they will spend the rest of their life in the refuge as they are often seen just sitting together on top of their wooden kennel staring into space. If you feel you would like to give Ben or both of these superb dogs a chance to shine and thrive, please contact us.

Sammy – Adopted

  • Male
  • Podenco Cross
  • Size: Medium
  • 2009 +/-
  • Weight: 15 – 20kgs
  • Colour: Sandy Brown with white markings
History:
The same history as Sky, Sammy came to the refuge abandoned along with his siblings, a litter of six about 4 years ago. They have all been adopted except for Sammy and his brother Sky.
Character:
Sammy would make an amazing ´buddy´ for anyone wishing to adopt him. He is active, loving and playful. He does rather like to receive some attention and laps it up. It doesn´t matter whether you prefer to cuddle him, play or just talk to him, Sammy appreciates everything and is excited to be with everybody. As he has podenco character traits, he is intelligent, attentive, OK with other dogs and would do everything he could to please his owner. He walks well on the lead, would learn basic commands very quickly and enjoy that challenge. We don´t have any other big adjectives for Sammy other than ´GORGEOUS´. Please enquire about this special chap as he is wasting his life away in the refuge and although he is well taken care of, a forever home is the best option for Sammy.

Alfie

Sex: Male

Breed: Podenco cross

Size: Medium

Born: 2012/2013

Weight: 10-15kg

Colour: Sandy brown

Alfie was found abandoned at the refuge by Alan and Jane together with his nine sibliings as very little puppies. Jane had to hand rear them all, but unfortunately all siblings contracted Parvo-virus. Sadly two siblings died, but Jane fought to pull the remaining pups through. Three of these have already found homes but some have still be over-looked and Alfie is one of this little group.

Alfie is a very well behaved dog and very lovable. He will come and sit with you, and if you give him a ball he will be content for hours. When he was
younger, he found life at the refuge stressful as he is active and intelligent. He learned to relax in the refuge, however, refuge life is not good for him!
Alfie needs focus and challenges and he can only find this through a loving family who have a lot of time to dedicate to him. He gets on well with other dogs and is desperately looking to learn new things, to show someone how clever he is and above all, he will do his very best to make you proud of him. This over-looked chap has enormous potential. If you like hiking, walking or if you would like to show him tricks and throw a ball for him, then Alfie would be very, very grateful indeed and wouldn´t let you down.
Please enquire for more information on Alfie!!
